Don’t theorise- do
Don’t over plan. Go do and learn whilst doing
You learn in motion, not whilst stationary
Better to act your way into a new way of thinking, rather than think your way into a new way of acting
Learning by doing is the most concrete form of learning.
-
Don’t read about a topic. Read about a topic, then write something in your own words.
-
Don’t simply listen to a song. Really listen, and then try to recreate it in your own style.
-
Don’t follow a programming tutorial. Make something in the real world.
-
Don’t learn for an exam. Learn, and then teach it to cement the knowledge. Can you explain it to a 5 year old?
-
Don’t simply watch someone do a practical procedure or report a scan. Attempt it yourself.
Doing is the highest form of learning. Theory is only useful up to the level of your practical knowledge.
You can’t learn martial arts without doing. You can’t learn to swim without doing. Theory can become an obstacle. Don’t think. Just do.
Shia Labaugh and Zen masters have a similar mindset. Shut up and sit.
